The box or tab clasp is a traditional clasp used on heavy chains and bracelets. This one-day workshop will focus on the traditional box or tab clasp. The techniques and processes used to make this clasp can be applied to a variety of shapes and forms. Each student will leave the workshop with a sample box/tab clasp. Some basic soldering experience will be helpful.
Nathan Dube is a metalsmith whose work explores his interest in childhood and play by exploring the relationship between humor, aggression, masculinity and how contemporary adult male identity is constructed in American culture. He holds a MFA from Kent State University and a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including a solo show at the National Ornamental Metal Museum in Memphis, Tennessee. He currently teaches at The Glassell Studio School of Art and Houston Community College.
