HMAG Celebrates 20 Years and the Holidays

1995… Bill Clinton was president, Forest Gump won the Oscar for Best Picture and “Y” necklaces were all the rage.   The average price for an ounce of gold was $383, silver had inched past $5 per ounce (Boy, those were the days!) and thanks to the efforts of a small group of visionaries, Houston got an official metal arts guild.

The current Board of Directors is busily researching the archives to see what HMAG has accomplished over the past 20 years.   Many, many great workshops have been organized and hundreds of HMAG members have benefited from the excellent instructors that HMAG has brought to Houston.  Through the years a good number of successful exhibitions and shows have reflected not only the current interests of the metal arts community of the time, but also what Americans were thinking about.  (Anyone remember Y2K?  HMAG had an exhibition about that event and like the rest of America, HMAG survived the transition to the new millennium.)

HMAG will celebrate its 20th anniversary along with the holidays in a combined party.  Come see what the Board has found in the archives and enjoy a bit of holiday cheer with your fellow guild members.
