It’s that time again!  It is time to show off what metal magic you’ve been creating and what has been capturing your artistic focus recently.  Have you been exploring new concepts or a different direction for your work?  Are you making magic with some new techniques that you learned in one of our workshops?  Well, let the rest of the world see what you’ve been doing!

Once again, the ladies of 18 Hands Gallery have graciously agreed to host HMAG’s Member Show entitled, “Metal Magic, 2015”.  In addition to letting us occupy a sizeable portion of their gallery space, they will be providing sales and marketing support to ensure that our show is a success.

The Guild has chosen not to have a theme for this show so that the work will better represent the diversity of YOU, our membership.   Artists working in any form of metal are welcome to enter.

And did we mention cash awards?  The awards this year are as follows:

Best in Show                               $100

Most Original Concept                $75

Best Use of Materials                  $75

The Newcomer Award                $50*

*The Newcomer Award is given for the best piece of work submitted by an artist entering a juried show for the first time.

About Our Shows:

Houston Metal Arts Guild strives to produce at least one members only juried show per year.  The show is open to all members and represents a broad spectrum of interests and skill levels.  The show serves several purposes.  It offers new and emerging artists the opportunity to try a juried show in a friendly setting with their fellow guild members. For the more established artist, it is an opportunity to not only show their latest work, but also their support of the Guild in its mission of educating and informing the public about the metal arts. Finally, for the Guild, it is an opportunity to provide a public face on what its membership does.

About Our Juror:

J  Hill is a sculptor and visual artist based in Houston, Texas.  He heads the Sculpture Department at the Glassell School, Museum of Fine Arts Houston and is a visiting professor at the University of Houston.

J Hill incorporates his sculptural works into a diverse variety of media to produce site specific or event-based art installations. He has produced a wide range of projects that tell the stories of ordinary people and provide commentary on their worlds.    His work has been exhibited throughout the US and is held in several public collections

  1. Terry Fromm says:

On Formsite, the instructions for naming the images of the entries (identified with your 3-letter initials, corresponding entry #, title, size, retail price i.e. DLW,Entry#1,Reisa necklace,18in,$285)
iis different from the instructions given in the prospectus (The file name should contain the artist’s initials, entry #, title, and item type. For example, MLD, Entry #1, “Reisa” bracelet. )
This is confusing. I would suggest changing the text in formsite to match the prospectus.

I would like to get a copy of the entry I submitted. Is this possible? it would be nice to see it as it is presented to the juror.
